Things to do around St. Martin

St. Martin lies on the German Wine Route, right at the edge of the Palatinate Forest. These places are easy to reach from our apartments.

Kalmit

approx. 10 min by carabout 1 hour on foot

The highest mountain of the Palatinate Forest, about 673 metres high. At the top is the Kalmithaus, the highest hut in the Palatinate Forest, with wide views over the vineyards and the Rhine plain. Hiking trails lead up directly from St. Martin.

Kropsburg

approx. 45 min on foot

The castle above St. Martin was built around 1200 and destroyed in 1689. Today it is privately owned and can only be seen from outside. The walk up through the vineyards is still worth it for the view.

Villa Ludwigshöhe and Rietburg chairlift

approx. 10 min by car

The former summer residence of King Ludwig I of Bavaria above Edenkoben, built from 1846 to 1852. Right next to it, the Rietburgbahn, the first chairlift in the Palatinate, takes you up to the Rietburg in about ten minutes.

Hambach Castle

approx. 20 min by car

The Hambach Festival took place here in 1832, and the castle is regarded as the cradle of German democracy. With an exhibition and views over the Rhine plain.

The nearest larger town, with an old town around the market square, shops and restaurants.

Speyer: Imperial Cathedral and Technik Museum

approx. 30 min by car

Speyer Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nearby, the Technik Museum Speyer shows aircraft, ships and space travel.

The Deutsches Weintor in Schweigen marks the southern end of the German Wine Route, right at the French border.
